White Herons at the Outer Banks

These photos were taken at the water viewing area near Bodie Island Lighthouse at the Outer Banks. It was fascinating to watch these groups of birds. They were all looking, waiting and listening for just the right opportunity to grab fish in the ponds and lakes. They moved slowly through the water, like hunters with heads cocked, waiting to pounce on their prey. Heron, or cranes, or egrets, as they are also called, are very timid in our area. It came in handy to shoot with my 500 mm lense and tripod. To see a larger version of an image simply double click on it. Enjoy!
